When we had our hands-on look at the latest Samsung tablet, we guessed that it would be priced to compete with the 10-inch version of the iPad Pro, if only because its included stylus and sold-separately keyboard seemed intended to appeal to that same "productive" tablet niche. Thanks to an early listing from Best Buy (since Samsung still hasn't given us a straight answer), we now know that yes, indeed it will. The Galaxy Tab S3 starts at 9.99 USD for the Wi-Fi model.

That price gets you the 32GB tablet (there are no other sizes mentioned at the moment) with the included S-Pen stylus, in either black or silver colors. Recall that this is the bigger, beefier S-Pen (which is shaped more like a full pencil than a mobile stylus, again very much like the Apple Pencil), which is the first Samsung design that's not capable of being stowed away in the tablet's body, Palm Pilot fashion. The $600 price tag is for the 32GB model - there were no other capacities announced - and carrier versions will probably be around the same with a contract or considerably more expensive without one.
Best Buy is also showing off some of the Tab S3's accessories, namely a "folio" case that doubles as a kickstand and a mobile keyboard with full chicklet keys. Both attach to the tablet via strong magnets, not the physical snaps of some previous designs, and the keyboard uses POGO pins instead of Bluetooth for an easy connection. The folio case will run you a pricey $59.99, while the keyboard goes for $129.99. That's expensive, but fairly standard in the current market. CDW also has a listing for the tablet at 6.99, but the page says "call for availability," and the retailer often has prices a bit below MSRP.
Best Buy is only listing the tablets and accessories as "coming soon," with no option to pre-order them as yet. Samsung hasn't given the Galaxy Tab S3 an official release date, but usually a retail listing means a release in less than a month.

The main things to consider are how much you want to spend, and what operating system you want - with Apple's iPadOS and Android being the two main options. Then think about what else matters to you in a tablet - be it size, power, camera or battery - and choose accordingly.
If you're hoping to get serious work done on a tablet then an iPad Pro, such as the iPad Pro 12.9 (2021) or newer, would be a good option. This has a big screen, lots of power, and supports a keyboard accessory. For an Android alternative, consider the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus, which has similar selling points.
Many of today's best tablets are powerful enough to be excellent laptop alternatives. Whether you're looking for one of the best iPads or one of the best Android tablets, you'll get a lot out of that tablet you're getting. And, because these devices give you all the benefits of a touchscreen without making you pay a premium for the feature, you've got a portable that's extremely versatile but not as expensive as, say, some of the best 2-in-1 laptops.
Of course, it would be unwise to simply go out and get the priciest model you can afford. The iPad Pro, for example, might the the most powerful iPadOS-powered device, but it might be that what you need is an iPad Air, which means you'll be saving money and getting exactly the tablet that's ideal for you. Or, it might be that all you really need is one of the best cheap tablets.

Plus, the Lenovo Yoga Tab 13 has a micro HDMI port, which is an unusual find on a tablet. This allows you to connect it to other devices so you can easily output the display on a larger screen or use it as a second screen for a computer, and we found the Tab a great device to use as a portable second screen.

Will it be an extra device for entertainment and productivity, or will it replace a laptop as a main computing device? Today's tablets can certainly handle all of the tasks of a basic laptop. Then you'll need to decide on your price range, because tablets can range from cheap budget devices to very expensive cutting edge portables, far more expensive than the laptops they replace. Finally, it would be helpful to choose between an Apple iPad OS tablet and an Android device, based on the services and software you prefer.
